Das World Blogging Forum 2010 in Wien liegt hinter uns.

Ich hatte mich sehr auf dieses Bloggertreffen im großen Stil gefreut, weil es international angelegt ist. Die Hauptsprache sollte Englisch sein und ich war sehr gespannt auf die vielen anderen internationalen Blogger.

Die Location bei der Telekom war top. Ein professioneller Konferenzraum mit allem technischen Zubehör und perfektes Catering den ganzen Tag über! Vielen Dank an die Sponsoren. Mit dem iPad konnte ich mich zwar nicht einloggen (der Anmelde-button funktionierte nicht) aber dafür war der Bob-Empfang Spitze! :-))

Die erste Session war ziemlich verwirrend und kaum einer hat verstanden, was da vor sich ging. Somit ging die gesamte Aufmerksamkeit auf die Twitterwall und es wurde rumgeblödelt was das Zeug hielt. Ab der zweiten Session wurde es besser und alle lauschten beeindruckt den Kurzpräsentationen. Da war viel Interessantes dabei und wieder einmal sind mir einzelne Sätze in Erinnerung geblieben, wie „facebook ist doof? Es ist nicht facebook – es sind Deine Freunde!“

Auch das Format war nicht so ganz klar. Mehrere Lightningtalks und dann Diskussion. Das war in der Nachmittagssession besser gelöst: Nach jedem Kurzvortrag Diskussion. Es war insgesamt eine Mischung aus Barcamp und Konferenz für mich…

Was mich extrem gewundert hat, ist, dass außer bei der politischen Session, so wenig über Blogs und Bloggen geredet wurde. Es gab Kurzvorträge über Twitter, Projekte (wie anonyme Gefallen), interaktive Videos, Erfolg im Business, groupshopping uvm. Die Diskussion, bei der es um Blogs ging, nämlich die Monetarisierung derselben, wurde leider abgewürgt.

Schade fand ich auch, dass etwa ein Dutzend der internationalen Blogger von den anderen irgendwie „abgeschirmt“ wurde. Beim nächsten WBF wünsche ich mir ein gemeinsames öffentliches Vortreffen am Freitagabend zum persönlichen Kennenlernen und Austausch und einen gemeinsamen Ausklang am Samstagabend. Die Party war nett, aber in einem Club muss man halt gegen die Musik anschreien und ich möchte mich da lieber unterhalten. Auch den Ausflug am Sonntag hätte man gemeinsam planen können. Ich hätte auch gerne für das Sightseeing Programm bezahlt… Mir war es effektiv zu wenig Austausch mit diesen interessanten Leuten. Bitte im nächsten Jahr unbedingt mit einplanen!!

Von den Wienern bin ich etwas enttäuscht. Ich habe den Eindruck sie „besuchen“ solche Veranstaltungen im Laufe des Tages mal, wenn es ihnen passt und gehen am Ende des offiziellen Programms sofort nach Hause. Zum offiziellen Beginn um 9 Uhr waren auf jeden Fall erst wenige Teilnehmer vor Ort. Auch die No-Show-Rate schien mir sehr hoch.

Trotzdem: Insgesamt eine gelungene Veranstaltung. Ich habe viel Interessantes gehört und Einiges mitgenommen. Meine drei Tags: inspiring, motivating, interesting!!! Danke an Ritchie und sein Team für die Organisation!!!

The World Blogging Forum 2010 in Vienna is over!

I have been really looking forward to this large event, because it is international. The main language was supposed to be English and I was very curious about the international bloggers.

The location at Austrian Telekom was top. There was a professional conference room with all necessary technical equipment and a perfect catering during the whole day. Thanks to the sponsors. Though I could not log in to the WiFi with my iPad (the log in button did not work) I could surf with my Bob connection.

The first session was a bit chaotic and a lot of people did not understand what was going on. So the concentration moved to the twitterwall, where a lot of fun tweets could be read. With beginning of the second lesson it got much more interesting and everybody was listening to the short presentations. There was a lot of interesting stuff in it in some sentences are still in my mind as „facebook is stupid?  It is not facebook, it’s your friends!“

The format of the event was not really clear for me. There were some lightning talks and then discussion. I found the afternoon session much more better: there was a discussion after each short presentation. It was like a mixture between barcamp and conference for me…

I was wondering, why we did not talk (apart from the political session) about blogs or bloggers. There were short presentations about twitter, projects (anonymous favour), interactive videos, success in business, group shopping and much more. The only discussion about blogs (how to monetarize them) was unfortunately shortened.

It was a pity that a dozen international bloggers were somehow ‚kept‘ from the others. For the next WBF I would like to have a public get together at Friday evening for to meet the others and time for exchange and chat. Also on Saturday evening I would love to have a joint conclusion. The party was nice, but I’d rather talk to people instead of shouting against the loud music. The sightseeing tour on Sunday could have been also public. I would have loved to pay for the trip and would have liked to have the opportunity to talk to the international bloggers during the tour. For me there was not enough exchange between the participants and the very interesting guests. Please consider this for next year!

I am disappointed from the bloggers from vienna. It seems that they ‚visit‘ such events like barcamps or this forum, if they just feel like it and after the official programme they tend to go home. At the official beginning at  9 o’clock there were only some participants at the location. The no show rate seemed also to be quite high.

Anyway: It was a successful event over all! I heard a lot of interesting things and still have some of it in my mind. My three tags: inspiring, motivation, interesting!!! Thanks to Ritchie and his Team for organizing!
